This weeks idea: #1

This week my idea is a combination of a cafe, an art studio and a cinema. I decided to make the cinema part into a screening for a tutorial or a DIY class on how to create different things or how to draw, basically just a 'how to' kind of class. This is then linked to the art studio idea as the people taking part in this class will be learning from the tutorial and putting it into practice while watching it. On the side of the chairs they will be sitting in is a fold out tray/table, this is for the people to lean their sketch books on while they work. The chairs are cinema quality chars meaning they're comfy and not hard to sit on. The cafe idea is a counter with the food on the shelves and someone operating the till, the cafe is there for when the people taking part in the class want to have a break can go and grab a bite to eat and go back to their chairs or go outside and have a break while they eat. The screen is a TV mounted on the wall at the back of the boat shed and high enough so everyone can see it. Under the TV there is an art supplies table with spare pencils, rubbers, paper, rulers, sharpeners etc you get the point, basically the essentials for drawing or creating something. The lighting is mostly natural lighting from the windows on the side of the boat shed and the roof (sky light) when it gets later in the day and its starts to get darker there are lights that gradually turn on inside as it starts to get darker outside making the change barely noticeable.

Plan, Perspective, section and elevation drawings

My Plan drawing shows a top down view of my boat shed. In this drawing you get a better view of the tray tables on the seats to lean on while drawing. You also get a better view of the items on the art table in the top right hand corner and whats on top of the counter of the cafe on the left hand side. you can see where the door is and which way they open out you can also see where the window in because it sticks out from the wall and where frames for photos are because they come out from the wall.

In these Section drawings i drew 3 different angles showing the left side the right side then looking from the front of the shed towards the back. you can see the different levels as you move down. you can see on top of the roof the glass opening letting in natural light.

In this perspective drawing you can see the door gap and the lines on the walls show them getting further way as the ends of the walls get closer to the back of the shed.

In my elevation drawing i looked at the boat shed from the outside  looking in. You can see the doors when they're closed and again when they're open, when they're open you can see the chairs and the screen as you would would in and the window, cafe and art supply table are all hidden by the side of the walls.

 i used both images and video to show movement around the boat sheds and to show me walking past them. i used an overlay to show both my legs walking and what my eyes are seeing. Also in the images there are people moving past the sheds.

model

My attempt at making a model boat shed out of paper and card. I added the types of doors i want for my boat shed and the screen plus the chairs that would go inside. Unfortunately i didn't think about putting things inside the model until after i put the roof on making it really difficult to add more to the inside of the shed giving it less detail inside.

A different approach to making a collage of the boat sheds making different parts bigger and more noticeable.

Overlaying images

 In these two attempts I used an overlay of the inside of the boat shed to show an x-ray of whats behind the doors. i added in a stair case to explore what i wanted to be inside the boat shed but decided i didn't like it as much and could test it out later with more collages.

 

In this image i overlaid the inside of the boat shed to see inside again, I then added the bar counter top and the bar stools to explore an idea of what i could put inside my boat shed design.

INSPIRATION for my meeting places!!

 Art/craft studio inspiration- In these images I like the natural light coming in through the windows or open doors. I like the wood on the floors matching the tables and the beams across the roof. 

Bar inspiration- I like the darker tones, I like the wood effect again but the darker shade of the wood matches the place better. Has a rich colour. I like the height of the bar and the tall bar stools and the glasses hanging from the roof and the wine rack behind the bar.

Cafe inspiration- Again in these images I like the natural lighting or the lights that make it look natural, I like the busy clustered look and how the shelves are full with some kind of pastry or other type of food. I like how the walls are covered in posters or chalk boards with menus or little notes to read while standing in line. The space seems safe and comfy and home like, easy to relax in and a place to keep coming back and feel the same all over again.

Cinema/Theatre Inspiration - I like the warm colours in most of the images, the light orange tones coming from the switch lights gives the space a warm feel. I like the idea of having a screen (not the main screen with the movie) with lights behind it that can change the feel of the whole room depending on what colour is showing. I like the lights on the columns on the walls and the lights coming from the roof in the bottom right corner.
